Most countries have a main intake in the autumn (Fall/September) and a second intake in January or February (Spring/Winter). Here's how they compare for Indian students.
Fall intake (August–September)
- More programs: almost every course is open.
- More funding: most scholarships and assistantships are awarded for Fall.
- Better internship timing: in the USA, Fall starters have a full year before summer internships.
- Competition: more applicants, and visa appointment demand peaks in summer.
Spring intake (January–February)
- More preparation time: useful if test scores or documents aren't ready.
- Fewer programs: some courses don't offer a Spring start.
- Less funding: fewer scholarships and assistantships.
- Visa slots: often easier to get.
Which should you choose?
If your profile and documents are ready, Fall usually offers the most options. If you need more time to improve scores, build your profile or arrange finances, Spring is a sensible choice rather than rushing a weak Fall application.
